Roles and Responsibilities
1. Operational Oversight Supervise all drilling operations and ensure they are carried out as per the drilling program and industry standards. Coordinate daily activities of the rig crew to maintain efficiency and productivity. Ensure that the drilling equipment and machinery are functioning properly and address any malfunctions immediately. 2. Safety Management Enforce compliance with all safety regulations and procedures. Conduct regular safety meetings and drills with the rig crew. Investigate and report accidents or incidents, implementing corrective measures to prevent recurrence. Oversee the safe handling, storage, and use of hazardous materials. 3. Personnel Management Supervise and mentor the rig crew, including drillers, assistant drillers, and roustabouts. Ensure proper training of personnel in operational and safety procedures. Manage crew schedules, ensuring adequate staffing for all shifts. Resolve any personnel issues and maintain discipline on the rig. 4. Administrative Duties Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, equipment usage, and material consumption. Prepare and submit daily drilling reports to the rig manager or company representatives. Ensure proper documentation of maintenance schedules, inventory, and incident reports. 5. Equipment and Maintenance Ensure the rig and associated equipment are in optimal condition through regular maintenance and inspections. Coordinate with service providers and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment. Monitor the stock levels of drilling materials and request replenishments as necessary. 6. Liaison and Communication Serve as the primary point of contact between the rig crew and the company representative or drilling superintendent. Communicate any operational challenges or delays to the appropriate stakeholders. Coordinate with third-party service companies (e.g., mud engineers, directional drillers, cementing crews). 7. Emergency Response Act as the lead in emergency situations, such as well control incidents or equipment failures. Ensure the rig crew is trained in emergency procedures, including blowout prevention and evacuation plans.
