A Floorman, also known as a Roughneck, plays a vital role in drilling operations on oil and gas rigs. The main responsibility is to support the drilling team by handling drill pipes, maintaining rig equipment, and ensuring a clean and safe work environment on the rig floor. Floormen assist in making and breaking connections during drilling operations. They work closely with the Derrickman, Assistant Driller, and Driller to ensure smooth handling of drilling tools and equipment. They operate tongs, slips, and other manual or hydraulic tools used to connect and disconnect drill pipe. Routine tasks include cleaning the rig, checking equipment for damage or wear, and performing maintenance on pumps, motors, and rotary equipment. Safety is a top priority; Floormen must follow all HSE procedures, wear protective gear, and report hazards immediately. Floormen are expected to work in physically demanding conditions, including extreme weather and long shifts. They must be team-oriented, alert, and able to respond quickly to instructions. This role is often the starting point for progressing into higher positions like Derrickman or Assistant Driller. The Floorman’s contribution is critical to keeping the rig running safely
