An Assistant Driller supports the Driller in safely and efficiently operating drilling rigs on oil, gas, or geothermal sites. Their primary responsibility is to monitor and maintain the drilling operations, ensuring adherence to company and safety procedures. They supervise the rig floor crew, ensuring that pipe handling, tripping, and other drilling activities are carried out safely and effectively. They assist in maintaining mud systems, monitoring pump pressures, and maintaining the drill string and equipment for optimal performance. The Assistant Driller communicates with the Driller regarding hole conditions, mud weights, and any operational issues to ensure quick responses to changing well conditions. They also maintain accurate records of drilling parameters, equipment checks, and daily activities. The Assistant Driller ensures that the crew is using the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) and follows safety standards to prevent incidents on the rig. They help conduct regular safety drills and inspections, assist in equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, and ensure that housekeeping on the rig is maintained. They must remain alert to potential hazards and assist in emergency situations as needed. Strong teamwork, clear communication, and attention to operational details are key in this role to support efficient and safe drilling operation.
