As a Roustabout fresher (sometimes spelled "rostabout") in the oil and gas industry, you’ll typically perform basic labor and support tasks to assist more experienced workers on drilling rigs, offshore platforms, or oilfields. While no prior experience is required, you’re expected to be physically fit, safety-conscious, and willing to learn. Duties and Responsibilities of a Roustabout (Fresher): General Labor and Maintenance Cleaning the rig, deck, and equipment Painting and rust removal on metal surfaces Moving tools, materials, and equipment to work areas Assisting with Rig Operations Helping set up and dismantle drilling and service rigs Assisting in pipe handling and storage Supporting drillers and roughnecks during drilling activities Housekeeping Keeping work areas tidy and free of hazards Cleaning spills and disposing of waste materials safely Equipment Checks Inspecting and reporting basic equipment issues Helping with lubrication and basic maintenance of machinery Safety Following all safety regulations and procedures Participating in safety drills and training sessions Wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) Offshore/Onshore Logistics (if offshore) Assisting with loading and unloading supplies from supply boats or trucks Helping with storage and inventory control --- Skills and Qualities Required Physical strength and stamina Willingness to work long hours, often in tough weather Teamwork and ability to follow instructions Basic understanding of mechanical tools and safety rules.
