Roles and Responsibilities
Be responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the drilling rig, supervising rig and yard personnel, ensuring well integrity, adhering to the drilling program, and observing safety, environmental, and quality standards. Operational Responsibilities: Operate the drilling rig according to standard operating procedures and the instructions of the well superintendent. Supervise and control drilling, casing, cementing, workover, and workover operations. Verify and control critical drilling parameters: weight on bit, torque, rate of penetration, pump pressure, and mud level. Perform hookups, drill string changes, downhole maneuvers, and trips safely and efficiently. Interpret and comply with the approved drilling program, making operational adjustments when necessary to maintain safety and efficiency. Verify the correct operation of solids control systems, mud pumps, winch, rotary table, top drive and other drilling equipment. Safety and Environmental Responsibilities: Comply with and enforce safety, environmental, and occupational health procedures in all operations. Conduct hazard analyses (AST/STA/JSA) before each critical task. Coordinate emergency drills with safety personnel. Ensure the proper functioning of explosion prevention and control systems (BOP) and safety devices. Leadership and Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct and supervise rig personnel: driller assistant, driller helper, floor man, motorman, derrickman, and boiler man. Coordinate work shifts and ensure that all personnel in charge comply with assigned tasks and safety procedures. Maintain ongoing communication with the Toolpusher and Drilling Superintendent. Report abnormal conditions or risky situations during operations. Administrative and Technical Responsibilities: Prepare and submit daily operating reports (DDRs) and drilling parameter records. Keep logs of tool, material, and man-hour consumption. Record and report any operational incidents or deviations. Participate in daily operational and safety meetings. Technical Competencies and Skills: In-depth knowledge of pressure control systems (BOP, choke manifold, diverter). Handling different types of drill bits and drilling programs. Familiarity with solids control and mud treatment systems. Ability to interpret well plans, geological reports, and electrical logs. Use of drilling software (optional depending on the company: WellView, DIMS, OpenWells).
