Key Responsibilities: Drill Pipe Handling: Derrickmen guide and handle drill pipe during tripping operations (raising and lowering the pipe), ensuring it's properly connected and disconnected, and stacked in the fingerboard or racking board. Mud System Management: They monitor and maintain the drilling fluid (mud) system, including mud pumps, mixers, and shale shakers.
