As a certified Stage 3 Offshore Crane Operator, the primary responsibility is to operate pedestal cranes safely and efficiently during all lifting operations, including cargo, equipment, and personnel transfers. The operator must conduct thorough pre-use checks, daily inspections, and function tests of the crane to ensure all systems are operational and safe. Compliance with all relevant regulations such as LOLER, PUWER, and company-specific lifting procedures is essential. The operator must ensure all lifts follow the approved lifting plan and are executed with clear communication with riggers, banksmen, and the deck crew, using radio or standard hand signals. The operator is also responsible for supervising rigging teams during lifting operations, halting activities immediately if unsafe conditions arise, and participating in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and risk assessments. Accurate record-keeping of crane usage, lift logs, and incident reports is required. In addition, the operator assists in identifying crane defects and coordinating with maintenance teams for repair and preventive maintenance. Emergency preparedness is also part of the role, requiring participation in drills and immediate response to incidents involving crane failure, fire, or other offshore emergencies. This role demands strong situational awareness, technical competence, and a commitment to safety at all times.
