Roles and Responsibilities
A Toolpusher, also known as a Rig Manager, is the senior-most representative of the drilling contractor on the rig site. They are responsible for overseeing all drilling operations and ensuring that the rig operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable regulations and company policies. 1. Operational Oversight • Supervise all drilling and rig-related activities. • Ensure the drilling program is carried out as planned and on schedule. • Coordinate daily operations with the Driller, Company Man (Well Site Supervisor), and other rig personnel. • Monitor and control drilling parameters, equipment use, and work performance. 2. Safety and Compliance • Enforce safety standards and ensure that all personnel follow health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies. • Conduct safety meetings and drills regularly. • Ensure compliance with governmental regulations and company procedures. • Investigate accidents and incidents and report findings. 3. Personnel Management • Supervise and support all rig personnel, including Drillers, Derrickmen, Floorhands, and other crew members. • Assign tasks and shifts, manage performance, and provide training when necessary. • Resolve personnel issues and maintain morale and discipline on the rig. 4. Equipment and Maintenance • Ensure all rig equipment is maintained in good working condition. • Oversee preventive maintenance schedules and coordinate repairs. • Monitor inventory levels of critical equipment, tools, and materials. 5. Reporting and Documentation • Maintain accurate records of drilling operations, equipment usage, and personnel logs. • Prepare and submit daily drilling reports and other required documentation to the drilling contractor and the client. • Communicate with company representatives, vendors, and other stakeholders as needed. 6. Emergency Response • Take command in case of an emergency, such as blowouts, fires, or serious injuries. • Ensure emergency response plans are in place and that crew members are trained in emergency procedures.
