The primary duties of a Rig Electrician revolve around the installation, maintenance, and repair of the rig's extensive electrical infrastructure. ​1. Maintenance and Repair ​Preventive Maintenance (PM): Performing scheduled and planned maintenance on all electrical equipment, including generators, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and battery banks. ​Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and restoring the rig's electrical power, distribution, and control systems to minimize downtime and keep safety-critical operations online. ​Breakdown Response: Executing prompt and safe breakdown response during critical operations to restore power under time pressure, following all safety and permit regulations.
