A floorman (floorhand) supports drilling operations on the rig floor. Key responsibilities include handling drill pipes and tools, assisting with tripping in/out of the hole, and operating equipment such as tongs, slips, and elevators. The floorman helps maintain and clean rig equipment, ensures proper lubrication, and reports any mechanical issues to supervisors. Safety is a major part of the role: following all rig safety procedures, using PPE correctly, participating in JSAs, and responding to emergencies such as fire or H₂S alerts. Floormen also assist with mud system maintenance, including monitoring mud pits and mixing chemicals as directed. The position requires strong teamwork, communication, and physical endurance, as tasks are performed in rotating shifts and challenging conditions.
