This role requires a strong focus on safety, technical knowledge, and the ability to work in a demanding environment. Key roles and responsibilities include: Supporting Drilling Operations: Assisting the driller in operating drilling and hoisting equipment, including the draw works, mud pumps, and pipe-handling systems. This includes monitoring drilling parameters like weight on bit, rotation speed, and pressure levels. Safety Leadership and Compliance: Promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring all crew members adhere to strict health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures. The assistant driller conducts safety meetings, participates in drills, and reports all incidents or potential hazards. Equipment Maintenance: Overseeing and participating in the routine maintenance, inspection, and minor repair of drilling equipment to ensure proper functioning and minimize downtime. This includes managing the lubrication schedule and maintaining a clean and orderly work area. Crew Supervision and Training: Directing and guiding the rig floor crew (e.g., roughnecks, derrickhand) in their assigned tasks, such as assembling and disassembling the drill string and casing. They are also involved in training new crew members on standard operating procedures. Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all drilling activities, including daily drilling reports, equipment logs, and pipe tallies. Well Control Preparedness: Familiarizing themselves with all well control procedures and ensuring essential safety equipment, such as the blowout preventer (BOP) system, is tested and ready for use in emergencies.
