An assistant driller's job responsibilities include assisting the driller with daily operations, operating and maintaining drilling equipment, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. Key tasks involve rigging up and down equipment, monitoring drilling parameters and well conditions, and handling tools and tubulars. They are also responsible for record-keeping and supervising floorhands. Drilling operations and maintenance Assist the driller in operating the rig, including controlling pumps and drilling equipment. Handle and assemble/disassemble drilling tools, pipes, and other equipment. Perform routine maintenance on equipment, such as greasing and cleaning, and conduct simple repairs. Monitor drilling fluid circulation and assist in the operation of mud pumps. Monitor well conditions, such as mud weight and pressure, and make adjustments as needed.
