The Night Toolpusher plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and continuous drilling operations during night shifts. Their primary responsibility is to supervise all rig floor, maintenance, and drilling activities while the senior toolpusher or rig manager is off-tour. They ensure that the drilling program is followed accurately, and that all operations comply with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. A key duty of the Night Toolpusher is to monitor well parameters, drilling progress, and equipment performance, identifying any abnormal trends or potential hazards. They coordinate closely with the driller, mud engineer, and other service personnel to maintain proper drilling fluid properties, equipment readiness, and operational efficiency. They also oversee preventive maintenance on critical equipment to minimize downtime. Safety leadership is a major part of the role. The Night Toolpusher conducts toolbox talks, enforces permit-to-work systems, and ensures that all personnel follow safe work practices. They respond to emergencies, support well-control procedures, and document all incidents or near-misses.
