Roles and Responsibilities

As a Rig HSE Supervisor, my daily work focuses on ensuring safe and compliant operations across the rig site. I start the day with a full safety inspection and walkthrough — checking the rig floor, pump room, substructure, and camp areas. I look for any unsafe acts or conditions, verify PPE compliance, housekeeping, and make sure all fire extinguishers and emergency systems are in good condition. Before every critical task, I attend toolbox talks and pre-tour safety meetings to ensure that the Job Safety Analysis is properly discussed and that every crew member understands the hazards and control measures. I also manage the Permit to Work system, verifying that permits for high-risk jobs — like hot work, confined space, or lifting — are properly issued, controlled, and monitored. Another key part of my role is incident and near-miss management. I make sure all incidents are reported immediately, participate in investigations, identify root causes, and follow up on corrective actions. Every day, I prepare and submit the daily HSE report, update observation records, and ensure HSE boards are current and visible to all. I also check emergency preparedness, conduct drills like fire or H₂S, verify muster points and firefighting equipment, and make sure the emergency team knows their responsibilities. Training and coaching are part of my daily routine as well. I work closely with the crew to build awareness, verify their competence in safety-critical tasks, and promote safe behavior by leading through example. During critical operations — such as lifting, pressure testing, or well control — I stay on site to monitor the job, ensure Red Zone management is followed, and stop any unsafe act immediately if needed. Finally, I participate in daily operations meetings, coordinate with the Rig Manager and Company Man, and share any HSE alerts or lessons learned to maintain continuous improvement. Overall, my goal every day is simple — to make sure that everyone on the rig works safely, follows procedures, and goes home without injury.
