As a Derrickman, you are responsible for maintaining not only your own safety but also the safety of the entire crew. A key part of your role is assisting the driller and assistant driller in training new employees, ensuring they understand their duties and are closely supervised during their first weeks on the job. When working in the derrick, always follow proper safety procedures: never unlatch the climbing device until you are securely hooked onto the tail line, and when leaving the derrick, make sure you are latched onto the climbing device before unlocking the tail line. During drilling operations, you must continuously monitor the mud weight every fifteen minutes and immediately report any changes to the driller. It is also essential to keep a close eye on the mud pumps throughout the operation to ensure they are functioning properly. Additionally, whenever transferring mud to another pit, you must promptly inform the driller or toolpusher to maintain clear communication and operational safety. Overall, your role requires awareness, discipline, and strict adherence to established safety protocols to support a safe and efficient drilling operation.
