Roles and Responsibilities
An Offshore Crane Operator . Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of pedestal, deck, or heavy-lift cranes to transfer personnel, equipment, and supplies between vessels and offshore structures. Key duties include conducting pre-operational inspections, managing load weights within safe working limits (SWL), maintaining crane machinery, and communicating with deck crews and vessel captains. They must ensure strict compliance with safety regulations and environmental conditions. Key Roles and Responsibilities: Crane Operation: Safely operating cranes to lift, move, and position heavy loads, including subsea equipment and supply boat offloading/backloading. Safety & Compliance: Adhering to strict safety protocols, including monitoring wind speed, sea state, and crane stability. They must ensure all lifts are within the crane’s designed capacity. Maintenance & Inspection: Performing daily, pre-operational checks on crane mechanics, hydraulics, and wire ropes. They are responsible for reporting malfunctions and performing minor repairs. Logistics & Coordination: Coordinating with the deck crew and signal personnel (banksman) to ensure safe load movement. Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate, detailed logs of all daily lifting operations and equipment maintenance. Emergency Response: Participating in emergency drills and executing critical lifts during, for example, adverse weather conditions or rescue operations.
