Roles and Responsibilities
As Chief Engineer on DP3 offshore units, I have been responsible for the overall technical management, safe operation, and reliability of all propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary systems on board. I led and supervised the entire engineering department, ensuring compliance with flag state regulations, classification society requirements, company procedures, and international maritime standards, including ISM and ISPS frameworks. My responsibilities included strategic maintenance planning, resource allocation, and coordination of scheduled and unscheduled repairs while minimizing operational downtime and maintaining vessel readiness for critical offshore operations. I oversaw the implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance programs, integrating condition-based monitoring, performance trending, and root-cause analysis to enhance system reliability and extend equipment lifespan. I managed complex technical projects such as the full SMST gangway replacement, coordinating mechanical integration, control system testing, and final acceptance trials with class surveyors and manufacturers. I conducted and supervised Azipod inspections, disassembly, troubleshooting, and preparation of detailed technical and classification reports, ensuring full regulatory compliance. I was accountable for the safe operation and modernization of diesel-electric power plants, including load management, power distribution optimization, and emergency response procedures. I led major engine overhauls, supervised external contractors, and ensured strict adherence to safety protocols and permit-to-work systems. Additionally, I implemented digital technical management solutions, including permit-to-work platforms, operational data monitoring systems, and KPI dashboards to improve transparency, decision-making, and maintenance efficiency. I also developed and maintained comprehensive technical documentation, risk assessments, and maintenance records to support audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives. Throughout my career, I maintained strong leadership, effective communication, and cross-departmental collaboration, working closely with captains, superintendents, and shore-based technical teams to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective vessel operations in demanding offshore environments
