As a Second Officer (Officer of the Watch) and certified Dynamic Positioning Operator (DPO) on offshore vessels such as AHTS and OSV, I was responsible for the safe navigation, positioning, and operational efficiency of the vessel in compliance with international maritime regulations and company procedures. As OOW, my primary duties included maintaining a safe navigational watch in accordance with COLREGs, STCW, and the Master’s standing orders. I was responsible for voyage planning and execution, chart corrections (paper and ECDIS), radar and ARPA operation, GPS monitoring, and continuous assessment of traffic, weather, and navigational hazards. I ensured proper bridge resource management (BRM), effective communication with the Master, engine room, and deck departments, and timely reporting of any deviations, incidents, or near misses. I also supervised lookout duties, managed bridge equipment checks, and maintained accurate logbooks and records. In my role as DPO, I was responsible for operating and monitoring the Dynamic Positioning system during offshore operations, including close-proximity tasks, standby, and critical DP activities. This included continuous monitoring of position reference systems, thrusters, power management systems, and environmental conditions such as wind, current, and sea state. I carried out DP checklists, system tests, and failure mode awareness, ensuring compliance with DP class requirements and company DP operational guidelines. I actively participated in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and emergency drills, maintaining a high level of situational awareness at all times. Additionally, I supported audits, inspections, and client requirements, promoted a strong safety culture, and ensured that all operations were conducted efficiently, safely, and in accordance with ISM and company standards
