My name is Juma, and I work as an Able Seaman (AB Seaman). As an AB Seaman, my role is to support the deck officers in the daily operation, safety, and maintenance of the vessel. I take part in navigational watchkeeping duties, where I act as a lookout, steer the ship under the officer’s instructions, and help ensure safe navigation at sea. I am responsible for deck operations such as mooring and unmooring, handling ropes, wires, and deck machinery with care and professionalism. I also carry out routine maintenance work including cleaning, chipping, painting, and greasing to keep the ship in good condition and prevent corrosion. Safety is a key part of my job. I am trained in the use of lifesaving and firefighting equipment and actively participate in emergency drills such as fire, man overboard, and abandon ship. I always follow safety procedures and work as part of a team to maintain a safe working environment on board
