Roles and Responsibilities
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance You aren't just waiting for things to break; you are actively preventing it. Engine Oversight: Monitoring the prime movers (caterpillar engines/generators). Checking oil levels, coolant, and fuel filters. Mud Pump Maintenance: Checking the "fluid end" (valves, liners, pistons) and the "power end" (oil levels and temperatures). Lubrication Schedule: Greasing the crown block, traveling block, swivel, and top drive components. 2. Troubleshooting & Rapid Repair When a hose bursts or a sensor fails at 3:00 AM, you are the first responder. Diagnosing mechanical failures in the drawworks or rotary table. Repairing pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Ensuring the "BOP" (Blowout Preventer) closing unit is pressurized and functional. 3. Inventory & Fluid Management Fueling: Managing fuel transfers and recording consumption. Parts Tracking: Keeping an organized log of what was used during the shift so the daytime mechanic can order replacements.
