Roles and Responsibilities
A Safety Officer plays a vital role in creating and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for all employees. Their main responsibility is to identify workplace hazards through regular inspections and detailed risk assessments, ensuring that potential dangers are controlled before they cause harm. They enforce company safety policies and make sure all workers follow established procedures and legal requirements. They monitor daily site activities to ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe work practices. In case of accidents, incidents, or near misses, they conduct thorough investigations to determine root causes and recommend corrective and preventive actions to avoid recurrence. A Safety Officer also organizes toolbox talks, safety inductions, and training sessions to increase awareness among workers about workplace risks and emergency procedures. They maintain accurate safety records, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with local and international health and safety standards.
