Roles and Responsibilities
Calibration: Aligning sensors (pressure, temperature, flow, level) with certified standards to ensure precise measurement readings. Preventative Maintenance: Performing scheduled inspections and cleaning of delicate components to prevent unplanned system downtime. Troubleshooting: Diagnosing signal failures, "noisy" data, or hardware malfunctions using multimeters and signal simulators. Installation: Mounting instruments, running conduit, and wiring devices back to central control panels. Loop Testing: Verifying the entire signal path from the field sensor to the control room software and back to the physical actuator. Control Valve Repair: Overhauling, packing, and calibrating the actuators that physically regulate the flow of materials. PLC/DCS Integration: Scaling electrical signals (like 4-20mA) so they translate correctly into digital values on a computer screen. Safety System Management: Maintaining "Emergency Shutdown Systems" (ESD) that protect the plant during critical failures. Documentation: Updating instrument index sheets, loop diagrams, and calibration certificates for regulatory audits. Programming: Configuring "Smart" instruments using communication protocols like HART, Foundation Fieldbus, or Profibus.
