Roles and Responsibilities
As a Gas Logger, my primary responsibility is to monitor and analyze hydrocarbon gases extracted from drilling mud during oil and gas exploration operations. I work closely with the drilling and mud engineering teams to ensure accurate real-time data acquisition, which plays a critical role in identifying hydrocarbon zones and maintaining well safety. I continuously operate and calibrate gas detection equipment such as gas chromatographs, total gas units, and related sensors to ensure precise readings. I am responsible for recording, interpreting, and reporting gas data, drilling parameters, and lithological information to provide insights into subsurface formations. This includes identifying formation changes, abnormal pressure zones, and potential drilling hazards such as kicks or gas influx. I maintain detailed logs and prepare daily drilling reports for clients and supervisors, ensuring all data is accurate and up to industry standards. Additionally, I assist in maintaining mud logging units, troubleshooting equipment issues, and ensuring uninterrupted data flow. I strictly follow safety protocols and industry regulations while working in a high-risk rig environment. My role also involves effective communication with geologists, drilling engineers, and other rig personnel to support decision-making during drilling operations. Overall, my position demands strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure in a rotational work schedule, contributing directly to safe and successful drilling operations.
Additional Skills/Certification
For skills I have strong skills in real-time monitoring and interpretation of drilling parameters such as ROP, WOB, RPM, and SPM, along with hands-on experience in hydrocarbon gas detection and mud logging operations. I am proficient in drill cuttings analysis, lithology identification, and detecting early signs of drilling hazards like kicks and gas influx. I also have knowledge of mud system monitoring, MWD/LWD basics, wellsite reporting, and equipment calibration and troubleshooting, with the ability to work efficiently in high-pressure rig environments. For certification I have IWCF Level 1 Program; Mines Vocational Training (MVT) – Oil India Limited; Gas Testing and Work Permit Training – Oil India Limited; MWD Technology: Wellbore Positioning & Drilling Optimization; Learn to Drill – Oil & Gas Accreditation Program.
