Roles and Responsibilities
My responsibility as a mud logger is for monitoring and analyzing real-time drilling operations at the wellsite to support safe and efficient drilling. This includes recording key drilling parameters such as rate of penetration (ROP), weight on bit (WOB), pump pressure, and rotary speed, while continuously observing changes in formation. The Mud Logger collects, washes, and examines drill cuttings to identify lithology and detect any geological variations. They also monitor and interpret gas readings using specialized equipment like gas detectors and chromatographs (C1–C5) to identify hydrocarbon shows. In addition, they prepare accurate daily drilling reports, maintain well logs, and ensure all data is recorded properly in the mud logging system. The role involves early detection of abnormal pressure zones and potential kicks, assisting in well control, and coordinating closely with the drilling team, mud engineers, and company representatives. Maintaining equipment calibration, following strict HSE standards, and ensuring proper sample handling and documentation are also key parts of the job.
