A Tool Pusher is the senior-most supervisor on a drilling rig, responsible for overseeing all drilling operations and ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective performance. The role involves direct supervision of the Driller, Assistant Driller, and the entire rig crew, ensuring that all activities are carried out according to the approved drilling program and company standards. One of the primary responsibilities is maintaining a strong safety culture on the rig. The Tool Pusher ensures strict compliance with safety regulations, conducts regular safety meetings, and immediately addresses any unsafe conditions or practices. They are also responsible for implementing emergency procedures during critical situations such as blowouts, fires, or medical emergencies. In addition, the Tool Pusher plans and coordinates daily drilling operations in collaboration with drilling engineers and company representatives. This includes monitoring progress, optimizing performance, and ensuring proper use of equipment and materials. They oversee maintenance of all rig machinery, ensuring that equipment is regularly inspected, serviced, and in proper working condition to avoid downtime. The role also involves managing crew schedules, assigning duties, and mentoring junior staff to improve team performance. The Tool Pusher prepares daily operational reports, maintains records of activities, and communicates progress and challenges to higher management.
