    Research Experience

Ph.D. Thesis: “Exploration of Bioactive compounds from Basella rubra Linn. for induction of apoptosis in colon cancer cells.”

Supervisor: Dr. P.Josthna, Assistant Professor, Dep. of Biotechnology, Sri Padmavathi Mahila University, Tirupati, India.

The research work focused on the exploration of traditionally used plant (Basella rubra L.) against colon cancer. This study investigated the chemotherapeutic property of Basella rubra L. and isolated the potential bioactive compound present in it. This is the first study determining isovitexin from Basella rubra L. with potential activities (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative and as apoptotic initiator) by in vivo, in silico and in vitro studies. Further large scale production of this bioactive compound from the Basella rubra L. will definitely be an alternative source of herbal medicine to combat chronic inflammatory diseases such as colon cancer.
