Designation: APC Engineer



Implements and supports Advanced Process Control (APC) systems to maximise efficiency and production performance within the Ruwais Refinery ensuring plant assets and infrastructure operate reliably whilst identifying and implementing solutions to optimise plant assets.

APC Procedures:
Identifies opportunities for APC, Optimization, Expert System and Process Performance monitoring applications.

Maximizes the on-line factor of the APC controllers.

Maximizes the potential savings identified through APC controllers.

Troubleshoots problems related to APC, Optimization, Expert System and Process Performance monitoring applications.

Prepares relevant studies to support financial and technical viability of new/modified APC, Optimization, Expert System and Process Performance monitoring applications.

Prepares Operating and Capital budget estimates for APC, Optimization, Expert System and Process Performance monitoring applications common for all sites and controls approved budget.

Designs, develops and implements process controls and automation projects involving automation systems and PC network technologies such as DCS, Safety Systems, Data Acquisition systems and APC.

Assists with the development and implementation of standard engineering practices regarding DCS alarm management and safety system best practices.

Develops and monitors inferential.

Periodically updates relevant software and hardware.

Optimizes and automates plant controls via automation techniques such as loop tuning and APC applications with a focus on improving facility cost-effectiveness and plant production capacity.

Participates in APC projects consisting of technology evaluation, process modelling design, engineering controls specification, implementation and on-going maintenance of applications.

Demonstrates the use of industry standards by ensuring applicable standards, best practices, specifications and regulations are met.

Health Safety Environment and Fire Procedures:

Knows the Company’s Health, Safety Environment and Fire Policy, Procedures, Regulations and Objectives and implements them at all times.

All department staff conform to HSEF regulations and are well trained in safety practices and emergency procedures to eliminate incidents and accidents

New Technology:

Keeps abreast of advances in relevant technology through discussions with consultants and suppliers, technical publications and self-development

APC operational competence is maintained through up to date knowledge of APC technology and processes.

Training and Development:

Identifies training needs for concerned plant personnel for APC, Optimization, Expert System and Process Performance monitoring applications.

Generates ideas for improvement projects, including measurement of benefits and development of project cost/benefit analyses.

Provides expert guidance, leadership and assistance to facility Control System Specialists.

Assists in the training of end users on Advanced Control schemes and DMC.

Training and development is embraced in liaison with the Training and Development Department to continually improve departmental performance

Certification Requirement

    Education: BSc in Chemical Engineering with APC background Work Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience in process control. Process engineering experience within the oil and gas industry Skills: Knowledge and technical accuracy of process manufacturing field instrumentation, technology and processes. Experience in the refinery and petrochemical industry in the area of automation and control engineering. Excellent knowledge of refining process and technologies. Good working knowledge of refining technical services/refining plant troubleshooting. Knowledge of process control performance on Company profitability. Able to write technical reports. Knowledge of international codes and standards, procedures, and specifications. Understanding of predictive techniques. Competent in the use of PC and relevant engineering computer software applications such as MAXIMO. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent oral and written English. Good command of oral and written English. Arabic language is preferable KIND ATTENTION
