Job Description

Medical examination requirements

The incumbent will undergo a pre-employment medical investigation, and thereafter the
incumbent may be medically assessed once annually. Upon retirement/resignation an exit
medical assessment will be done.

5. Purpose of the Job

Water and Wastewater Operators control the pumping of water for supply and storage and
treat water to purify it or to remove waste, in order to meet various national standards according
to SHEQ standards. They also ensure that the plant is neat and tidy and all items are in good
working order.


6. Description of job functions

? Execute tasks effectively and efficiently to ensure Contract obligations are met.
? Monitor attendance of General Workers and control Attendance Register for all site
based staff.
? Monitoring satisfactory completion of tasks assigned to respective General workers and
report unsatisfactory work performance to the Supervisor.
? Complete physical inspections of all sections of the plant and record/report any faults
and/or anomalies to the Supervisor.
? Daily diary to be accurately and timeously completed.
? Operate all process and equipment elements i.e. pumps, disinfection, screens etc.

? Responsible for the mixing and dosing of chemicals and changing over of chlorine
drums/cylinders.
? Monitor/Optimise chemical stock levels and usage to eliminate wastage
? Take samples and conduct routine laboratory analysis tests according to requirement.
? Make necessary operational process adjustments.
? Check and monitor plant for satisfactory operation.
? Perform housekeeping duties to ensure that process is optimised and that quality is not
compromised.
? Ensure that the process log sheet and appropriate forms inline with the SHEQ system and
site instructions are accurately completed and reported.
? Attend all nominated internal and external training courses.
? To read, understand and comply with all HR and SHEQ policies, procedures and
requirements.
? Ensure that all Client & Company assets are well maintained and secured at all times and
to report any deficiencies.
? Perform duties as Process Controller Appointee in line with the Occupational Health &
Safety Act No.85 of 1993 General Machinery Regulation 4. Comply with safety
procedures and play a role in advising staff on these procedures.
? Perform duties as First Aider Appointee in line with the Occupational Health & Safety Act
No.85 of 1993 General Safety Regulation 3.
? Obey any reasonable and legal instruction issued.
